Music | Almost anything funky, ranging from the usual white people art rock on the Talking Heads/LCD Soundsystem spectrum, to trip-hop and the complicated plunderphonicsy hip-hop of the 90s (Avalanches, DJ Shadow, J Dilla) to the actual real stuff made by Black musicians in the 60s and 70s like James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone, George Clinton’s cycle of bands, to the smoother Southern stuff like The Meters and Booker T. and the MGs. Deep love for folk, lotta family friends in the roots music scene, and I fell asleep as a kid to Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack. Jazz, including instrumental and vocal, and I can really vibe on everything from bebop to traditional pop to noise-y experimental things.
Truly though, I’ll dance to anything if the vibe is good. |

MY MAN GODFREY, WALKABOUT, MILLENIUM ACTRESS, AFTER YANG, HANNAH AND HER SISTERS, UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG, TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA, HIGH AND LOW, and BEAU IS AFRAID. Hopefully that tells you…something? |
Interests/hobbies | I am a writer and a poet. I love to swim and am SCUBA PADI certified, especially when there’s ocean life to see. I live to cook and bake, especially for people. I love going to zoos and aquariums not just to see animals but also to appreciate the architecture and landscaping. I’m happiest on a movie set. I do comedy but I promise I’m the correct amount of both earnest and cynical about it. I love to dance, it’s my favorite fitness regimen. Theatre is wonderful when it is not cringeworthy. I would hike around the desert forever if I had enough water. Being outside in general is great. I go for extraordinarily long walks alone with a podcast or audiobook for company.
Sometimes, when I need to think, I grab a little scarf and twirl it as I pace around. |

Anything else you want to share | I’m 6’3” / 6’2” and a half, and fairly stocky, but to compensate for looking like a brute I’ve trained myself, gradually, forcing my personality into the shape of a totally supportive and nonjudgmental partner who puts you first. So if you want an easily abused doormat who nevertheless will defend you from people on the street, I’m your man. It’s like they rolled me out of the factory custom built for people with daddy issues.
Dealbreaker, red flag, the ick, so on and so forth, if you don’t at least like pie. |
