Music | I don't think that laundry lists of media are a good basis for a relationship and I certainly don't want to give someone the impression that we're of similar mind just because we enjoyed the same books. That said, it can be fun to discuss.
PC Music / AG Cook is my favorite, I like pop/electronic music I go out to listen to live jazz a lot, it's like eavesdropping on an interesting conversation between strangers except far more socially acceptable. Everyone loves jazz, there has never been a person who has asserted that they fucking hate jazz. I have jazz CDs in my car console as well as a CD of poems by Pablo Neruda gifted to me by an old professor. Putting the former on during a car ride with someone you don't know well makes nonoffensive background music, the other is less well-received. |
Books | Juice by Tim Winton is my book of 2024
I spent a lot of time in college reading Russian literature and I can't say I remember all of it. I like many authors that people like - Arundhati Roy, Borges, Nabokov, etc Poetry is my favorite, I like picking up anthologies. It's like being at a buffet and getting to try a lot of delicious small bites of things. Each bite only whets my appetite for more |
Film/TV | I didn't have access to a TV growing up and am still learning cultural references from tv/film as an adult, but I haven't made a lot of headway here. If you make a reference to me I probably will not understand it. |
Interests/hobbies | native plant / organism research and identification
reading personal ads, I like seeing people self-describe and talking about their dreams gardening experimental cooking, anything can be yogurt when you realize yogurt is cultured liquid high in protein and fats reading (feels silly to list this as a hobby, just like eating is not a hobby but essential for survival) flying kites 10+ mile walks |
